James Griggs

Mr. James Griggs, 79, of Kirksey, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Griggs was born on February 18, 1939 in Darlington, SC to the late Raleigh Preston Griggs and Wille Mae Stokes Griggs. Jim proudly served his country as a Commanding Officer for the United States Coast Guard from which he retired in 1980. After his service, he went to work and retired from Kenlake Foods in Murray.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raleigh Preston Griggs, Jr. and two sisters, Frances Floyd and Genie Wilson.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Celia Ann Braswell Griggs of Kirksey; three sons, James Derek Griggs (Tina) of Mayfield, Barry Todd Griggs of Paducah, Kevin Dale Griggs (Lori) of Benton, IL; two daughters, Christie Strickland (Darrell) of Paducah, Trudy Quertermous (Ricky) of Kirksey; a sister, Etta Mae Milhoan of Lelia Lake, TX; 12 grandchildren, Rachel McReynolds, Candace Quertermous, Amber Griggs, Kimberly Maldonado, Darrell Strickland, Darren Strickland, James "Dallas" Griggs, Skyler Griggs, Brooke Rudd, Brandy Nyert, Wendy Nyert, Phillip Nyert, as well as 19 great grandchildren.

The funeral service for Mr. Griggs will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Heritage Chapel of Imes Funeral Home, 1804 Highway 121 Bypass North, Murray. Jeff Steen will officiate and entombment will follow at Murray Memorial Gardens.

His family welcomes visitors from 11 AM-2 PM on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Heritage Chapel.
